Vulvar cancer is a relatively rare diagnosis, representing about 5% of all gynecologic cancers, and only about 1% of all female cancers in general. There are about 3,500 new cases reported annually in the US and approximately 900 death a year attributed to this disease. The incidence of vulvar cancers has remained stable over the past two decades but the rates of precancerous lesions has more than doubled over the same period of time. The cause for the growing number of cases is not well-understood.

Vulvar cancer is most common in women over 50 years of age. Additional risk factors for vulvar cancer include having multiple sexual partners, cervical cancer, and the presence of chronic vaginal and vulvar inflammations. This typeof cancer is often associated with sexually transmitted diseases.

The vulva is the skin and fatty tissue between the upper thighs of women, from the area of the anus to about an inch below the pubic hairline. Cancer of the vulva most often affects the two skin folds (or lips) around the vagina, known as the labia.

Vulvar cancer is a rare type of cancer. It forms in a woman's external genitals, called the vulva. The cancer usually develops slowly over several years. First, precancerous cells grow on vulvar skin. This is called vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN), or dysplasia. Not all VIN cases turn into cancer, but it is best to treat it early.

Vulvar cancer forms in a woman's external genitalia. The vulva includes the inner and outer lips of the vagina, the clitoris (sensitive tissue between the lips), and the opening of the vagina and its glands. Vulvar cancer is a rare disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the tissues of the vulva.

At the front of the vagina, the labia minora meet to form a fold or small hood of skin called the prepuce. Beneath it lies the clitoris, an approximately ¾-inch structure of highly sensitive tissue that becomes swollen with blood during sexual stimulation. At the lower end, just beneath the vaginal opening, is the fourchette, where the labia minora meet. Beyond the fourchette is the anus, the opening to the rectum. The space between the vagina and the anus is called the perineum.

Most women with cancer of the vulva are over age 50. However, it is becoming more common in women under age 40. Women who have constant itching and changes in the color and the way the vulva looks are at a high risk to get cancer of the vulva. A doctor should be seen if there is bleeding or discharge not related to menstruation (periods), severe burning/itching or pain in the vulva, or if the skin of the vulva looks white and feels rough.

Vulvar cancer is usually treated with surgery. The type of surgery depends on the size, depth and spread of the cancer. Your doctor will review all the options for surgery and the pros and cons of each option. Some people may also need radiation therapy.

It is best treated by excision or sometimes by laser evaporation. If a large area is involved and must be removed, then a skin graft can be applied. These premalignant conditions are likely to recur after treatment so continued follow up is a necessity. Another condition that can occur on the vulva and also cause itching and soreness is called lichen sclerosis. It is not a premalignant change, but an atrophy of the skin. It will not be improved by anti-yeast medications either. It can be diagnosed by biopsy.

The need of support depends on many individual criteria from the type of treatment you received to the type of person you are. In the case of radiotherapy there are side effects that can cause problems with gaining and maintaining an erection. This can be tough and when paired with the possibility of not being able to pass urine as before can be mentally challenging. In most instances you will be informed of all possible side effects before treatment takes place.

It is vital to try and be honest about the emotions you may go through. It is a very tough time and sharing you feelings with others will help you cope. The type of emotions people feel are anger, guilt, fear and anxiety. This can lead to you feeling tearful (without knowing really why), restlessness and losing the ability to sleep. This will all be natural and is how the body reacts and tries to cope. The feeling of desperation and hopelessness will pass eventually. The only way is to talk through them however hard they maybe. It is important to remember there are many people in the same position and that there are support groups out there.

You do not have to cope with these feelings on your own; there are people available to help you. Some hospitals have their own emotional-support services with specially trained staff, and some of the nurses on the ward will have received training in counselling. You may feel more comfortable talking to a counsellor outside the hospital environment or to a religious leader.

Life after Penile Cancer

The most common question is will I ever be able to have sex again? The answer is in the majority of cases penile cancer will not affect your ability to have sex. There are some instances when though when the penis or part of the penis has been removed will affect sex life. This thought very distressing can be overcome through counselling and time.

Talking to your partner about your feelings and changes in your relationship is key to overcoming any emotional problems. This can be difficult and there is trained counselling and support out there. If there are problems then contact your doctor who can help or point your towards some place that can such as a counsellor or a nurse. Never keep your feelings or worries to yourself. You are not alone and it is time to enjoy life.

Does Xanax Show Up On Drug Tests? The Answer…

			Posted in March 9, 2010 ¬ 1:28 pmh.adminNo Comments »

Does Xanax show up on drug tests? The short answer is: yes. And here is why.

Xanax, also known as Alprazolam, is a benzodiazepine. This is a major category of drugs that includes other “downers” such as Valium and Klonopin. Benzodiazepines have been around since the 1950s, and they present some significant withdrawal risks. So for practical reasons it is certainly no surprise that a Xanax Drug Test exists.

If you are on a benzodiazepine of any kind (Klonopin, Xanax, Valium, Ativan, etc.) the Xanax Drug Test will record a positive. It can detect benzodiazepines in urine 3-7 days after use.

Aside from being picked up on a single strip urine drug test, Xanax and benzodiazepines in general can be tested for in multi drug urine tests. Our 10 panel iCup test, as well as our 12 strip drug test, detect the presence of benzodiazepines in urine. The 12 strip test is known as the “construction test” as a gesture to the extent of drug testing that is done on construction sites.

So again, the short answer is – yes, Xanax can be drug tested for. Look for BZO, the abbreviation of benzodiazepine, or Xanax, or Valium when you are trying to purchase a Xanax Drug Test. With prescription drug abuse on the rise in the United States, this type of drug test will no doubt become increasingly common.

Malignant brain tumors occur in about 4.5 people per 100,000 population, they may occur at any age but brain cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in patients younger than age 35. In adults, incidence is generally highest between ages 40 to 60.

There are two main types of brain cancer. Primary brain tumors start in the brain. Metastatic brain tumours start somewhere else in the body and moves to the brain. The most common tumor types in adults are gliomas and meningiomas. In children, incidence is generally highest before age 1 and again between ages 2 and 12. The most common types of brain tumour in children are astrocytomas, medulloblastomas, ependymomas and brain stem gliomas.

CAUSES OF BRAIN CANCER

What causes brain cancer is not exactly known but there has recently been a great deal of speculation on the role of cell phone radiation in the development of brain cancer. In fact, while studies generally have shown no link between cell phones and brain cancer, there is some conflicting scientific evidence that may be worth additional study, according to the FDA.

More accepted risk factors for brain cancer include; exposure to vinyl chloride and individuals with risk factors such as having a job in an oil refinery, as a chemist, embalmer, or rubber industry worker show higher rates of brain cancer. Other risk factors such as smoking, radiation exposure, and viral infection (HIV) have been suggested but not proven to cause brain cancer. Patients with a history of melanoma, lung, breast, colon, or kidney cancer are at risk for secondary brain cancer.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF BRAIN CANCER

Onset of symptoms is usually insidious and brain tumors are often misdiagnosed. Brain Cancers cause central nervous system changes by invading and destroying tissues and by secondary effects such as pressure on the brain. Symptoms vary but in general, brain cancer symptoms include: Abnormal pulse and breathing rates, deep, dull headaches that recur often and persist without relief for long periods of time, difficulty walking or speaking, dizziness, eyesight problems including double vision, seizures, vomiting and at the late stages of the disorder dramatic changes in blood pressure may occur. Although headaches are often a symptom of brain cancer, it is important to remember that most headaches are due to less serious conditions such as migraine or tension, not cancer.

DIAGNOSIS OF BRAIN CANCERS

In most cases a definitive diagnosis is made by a tissue biopsy. Other diagnostic tools include; patient history, a neurologic assessment, skull x-rays, a brain scan, CT scan, MRI, a lumbar puncture and cerebral angiography. Meningiomas, arising from the covering around the brain or spinal cord, account for about 20% of brain cancers and are generally more benign.

TREATMENT OF BRAIN TUMORS

How to treat brain tumors depends on the age of the patient, the stage of the disease, the type and location of the tumor, and whether the cancer is a primary tumor or brain metastases. Brain cancer and brain tumors are somewhat unique because of the blood brain barrier, which severely restricts the types of substances in the bloodstream that are allowed by the body into the brain and makes drug treatment extremely difficult. Because of this more and more research is being undertaken in delivering medication by means of nanoparticles, amongst the properties of nanoparticles that make them ideal candidates for recognizing and treating brain cancer, their ability to deliver a wide variety of payloads across the blood-brain barrier is perhaps the most important.

Brain cancer's location and ability to spread quickly makes treatment with surgery or radiation like fighting an enemy hiding out among minefields and caves, and explains why the term brain cancer is all too often associated with the word inoperable.

Brain cancer survival statistics for the deadliest of tumors such as gliomas have not improved significantly over the past two decades and the clinical armamentarium is, to a large extent, still dependent on surgery and radiation therapy, treatments known to leave survivors with devastating cognitive deficits. Gamma knife surgery is a radiosurgery technique used to treat people with brain cancer and other neurological disorders

The most deadly form of brain cancer may be treatable with a vaccine that uses proteins. Unlike measles or mumps vaccines, which are meant to prevent disease, the brain cancer vaccine turns on the patient's own immune system so it will help kill the tumor. When the vaccine is injected, it stimulates the immune system to kill off brain cancer cells and prevent the regrowth of tumors that have already been treated.

PROGNOSIS

The chances of surviving for a person with a brain tumor: Prognosis greatly depends on all of the following: type of tumor extent of the disease size and location of the tumor presence or absence of metastasis the tumor's response to therapy, age, overall health, and medical history, tolerance of specific medications, procedures, or therapies. Metastatic brain cancer indicates advanced disease and has a poor prognosis. Unfortunately, the most common form of primary brain cancer, glioblastoma, is also the most aggressive and lethal but teratomas and other germ cell tumors although they have the capacity to grow very large may have a more favorable prognosis.

PSA (prostate specific antigen) is one of the tests that are suggested in order to determine your prostate health. This examination is aimed at determining the quantity of proteins in your blood streams which is directly related to your reproductive structure. PSA is used to convert your viscous pre-semen into liquid so that it stimulates your sperm. The prostate specific antigen is an examination that is done on men. There are various facts that are associated with the prostate specific antigen. Some of these facts include;

     * Prostate and PSA- the prostate is accountable for the production of the PSA in all occurrence. In an ordinary instance, the prostate generates small amounts of protein. When the prostate generates a lot of PSA then there is need for concern. This is because there is something unusual with your prostate.

     * Arguments on PSA- PSA test are at times believed to be inaccurate. This is because; the elderly men are known to have low levels of prostate specific antigen production. This is brought about by the increase in the size of their prostate. There are however other tests that can be used to determine the reasons for the low production of PSA.
     * PSA and prostate cancer- the PSA examination does not help in the reduction of the prostate cancer related deaths. It only pilots to the insignificant treatments like operations and radiations.

     * PSA and other tests- there are several options when it comes to the prostate cancer testing. Some of them are usual while others are not but the choice on whether you will undertake the PSA test or not will be up to you. What should you expect from the PSA- the PSA tests that you undergo are not agonizing in any way. Your blood will be mixed with the radioactive PSA-grouping molecules which will be calculated clearly. The outcome of your test will be handed to you after a number of days. If the point of your PSA is 4, then you do not have to undertake the test for a minimum of 12 months. If the levels are higher that 4, then there is need for alarm as there will be something wrong with your prostate health.

If you are fed up hunting for your glasses or struggling to put in your contact lenses then why not consider the option of laser eye treatment which corrects your vision permanently?

Whether you are short sighted, long sighted or even have astigmatism, there are specific procedures available which can help you to see things clearly once again and which offer a permanent solution to vision problems.

Eye correction is a commonly performed procedure, especially considering that around three quarters of British adults wear glasses or contact lenses to correct vision.

Anyone seeking a permanent solution to vision problems could investigate the possibilities offered by laser eye surgery. There are various methods of laser treatment available so it makes sense to explore all the options before making your final decision.

LASIK (Laser-Assisted-In-Situ-Keratomileusis) eye surgery is currently the most frequently performed elective procedure in the world.

This type of laser eye treatment uses a cool beam of light from the excimer laser to gently reshape the front surface of the eye. The entire LASIK eye treatment takes around 10 minutes and, unlike other laser correction techniques, LASIK eye surgery patients tend to experience less discomfort following the procedure. Both eyes can be treated by LASIK simultaneously so there is no need for repeat trips to your eye surgeon.

LASEK is another type of laser eye surgery which involves removing the top layer of the cornea as a flap before re-sculpting it with an excimer laser.

The flap is then replaced on the surface of the eye and a soft contact lens is inserted for a few days following the surgery.

New technologies are emerging and Advanced CustomVue Wavefront allows the surgeon to further customise a LASIK or LASEK eye treatment to specifically suit the individual's vision.

Wavefront technology has the capability to measure and correct the unique imperfections of an individual's vision, meaning you have the potential to correct your vision to a more accurate degree than can be achieved with glasses or contact lenses.

IntraLase is another option which can form part of a LASIK eye surgery procedure and is an alternative method of creating the protective flap at the beginning of the treatment. IntraLase creates the flap using a precision laser instead of a mechanical method.

Laser treatment has a history stretching back over 40 years. The excimer laser, used in laser eye treatment, was first developed in 1970 though the term "excimer" first appeared 10 years earlier in the 1960's.

The term excimer first emerged in 1960 and was used to describe an energised molecule with two identical components.

The excimer laser is therefore simply an instrument that is used to vaporise tissue with a cold, consistent beam of light. The excimer laser uses ultraviolet wavelengths between 193 – 351 nm.

Research and development into laser eye treatment has continued since the excimer laser first emerged with the most significant progress occurring during the 1990s.

Resveratrol which is a powerful antioxidant that is mostly found in red wines is said to be a great agent when it comes to protecting one from cardiovascular diseases. The resveratrols lessens the hardening of the heart by limiting the effects of the cardiac fibrosis. Since the resveratrols are antioxidants can neutral the unstable molecules that may attack healthy cells and promotes optimum blood flow and circulation as well as reduces inflammation.

Most people now use red wines because of the availability of resveratrols in them, one contradicting facts is that it is an alcoholic drink that is healthy to the heart. The resveratrol is good in increasing the good cholesterol and protecting the arteries and other blood vessels from damages hence reducing the heart diseases. So a glass of red wine taking with your evening meal is just good for you.

If one is a teetotaler and can not drink alcohol so that he or she can also get the resveratrols it is important that that person gets other sources of resveratrols which include the grapes and grape juice. Other sources include peanuts, blueberries, cranberries and eucalyptus leaves. Though the levels of these other sources of resveratrols can be a little low it is a good and a non alcoholic source so the non drinkers can also benefit from it.

The resveratrols being an oxidant are also able to get rid of the free radicals that harmful and can be cancerous. There are so many benefits of resveratrols that include strengthening of lean muscles that are also related to cardiovascular health.

Resveratrols and cardiovascular health

The resveratrol is regarded as a blood thinning agent and is important to your blood circulation and better muscles function. This minimizes the damages that can be caused to your cardiovascular health and circulations as well.

Apart from having the multi modalities of heart tending actions, the resveratrols also helps protect one from obesity and diabetic complications that are all dangerous diseases to the body as well as the normal functionality of the heart. The French are known smokers and love diets that contain high levels of saturated fats but since they are also great lovers of red wines which they make sure to include in their daily meals they have managed to keep the cardiovascular complications at check without any struggle

The resveratrol is produced as a phytoalexin by certain plants so that it fights against bacteria and fungi that might kill them hence the antioxidant abilities it has. Other benefits of resveratrols include making sure that your body is well maintained energy wise and that you do not feel tired just anyhow. Some resveratrols are now chemically produced for use just like the natural resveratrols are so one most important thing is to always eat a balanced diet with plenty of water and fruits.

There are several types of friendly bacteria that are known to be resident in the human colon. These include Bifidobacteria bifidum and Lactobacillus acidophilus. Of all probiotics, Lactobacillus acidophilus is the most effective. Its ability to boost your immune system comes from the fact that it is able to take care of all the pathogens that you take in food, air or drinks. Look at the following benefits and you will be glad you developed an interest in these bacteria.

- Super gut cleaner: the way in which they clean the digestive tract is simply awesome. It has ability to remove all garbage in your system. Some bacteria are specifically used to induce diarrhoea which is a way of purifying the gut.

- Inhibitor of harmful bacteria production: although itself a bacterium, any straits of bacteria does not entertain the development of other bacteria. It does this by introducing a slightly acidic condition which makes the region unfriendly for other bacteria.

- Nourishing the body: for easy assimilation of food ingested, the particular food needs to be broken into parts. Without probiotics, the body would be incapable of fast cellular development since hydrocarbons that are naturally in our system would thrive unchecked. Bacterium checks the growth of these particular enemies of digestion.

- No more digestive disorders: most of the digestive tract problems can be solved by these friendly bacteria. Antigens that have been pooled are put to use in promoting immunity and are used to fight most illness of the tract. Soon enough, the patient is able to enjoy a stabilised bowel movement of standard stool thickness.

- Destroyer of viruses: along with most parasites, viruses do not stand much chance against the indomitable bacteria. This simply means that by having a friendly bacterium, your war against average viruses is half won.

- Creator of enzymes: some enzymes are awfully important in exposing suitable nutrients that are likely to be passed out of the body undigested. These enzymes work to bring lactase, calcium and fatty acids within digestive distance.

- Immune system booster: probiotics can increase your immunity by sensitising the immune sensors to allergens and improving reactive functions of the immune process.

- Detoxifier: poisonous elements in the body need synthesised proteins to fight them off. Bacteria have certain microorganisms that in harmony with organ cells help to metabolise those proteins.

- Antibody developer: it is possible for probiotics to produce many antibodies that can fight contamination.

Probiotics can be found in dairy products like yoghurt. You can also take in pill or capsule form. Additional bacteria work exactly the same way those naturally resident in the body work. This means that an increase in bacteria ingested results in double or even triple action beyond the capacity earlier possible. What's more, it is totally natural and comes with the benefits of natural therapies.
